Coach's Corner

I’m Jessie Able and I’m proud to be the instructional coach at Lawrence Elementary! This is my 8th year in this role at Lawrence. I previously taught for 9 years in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade at Secrest Elementary, also in Arvada.  I am passionate about working with kids. One of the special things about being a coach is that I get to work with all of Lawrence’s students and teachers!

Parents and students often ask me what an instructional coach is.  As a coach, I fulfill five major roles defined by our district:
Classroom Supporter: Working side by side with teachers and students in the classroom to support teachers in improving their practice and kids to grow and achieve.
Mentor: Giving extra support and guidance to brand new teachers as they adjust to teaching on their own and gain confidence in the classroom.
Data Coach: Supporting the administration of district and state assessments, guiding teachers in understanding the data from these tests and how they can use the data to help their students.
Instructional and Curriculum Specialist: Providing training and support for teachers in research-based instructional strategies and working side-by-side with them to plan and deliver instruction to meet the needs of all students.
School Improvement Leader: Working closely with the with principal and building leadership team to help make Lawrence Elementary the best school it can be for our students, staff and community!

At Lawrence, our vision is “Together We Can, Together We Will!”  Coaching is all about working together with teachers and students to help everyone grow and get better.  It is truly a privilege to be Lawrence’s instructional coach. Please let me know if you have any questions or if there’s anything I can do to support you or your student.
